Police in Ghana’s Northern Region have arrested a 33-year-old man, identified as Abdul Manan, in connection with the large-scale distribution of illicit drugs. The arrest occurred on Friday, May 23, in Tamale’s Zujung suburb, following a targeted anti-drug operation that resulted in the seizure of substantial quantities of Tramadol and other controlled substances.
Operation Targets Suspected Drug Network
The operation was spearheaded by the Regional Special Operations Team, known as Red Maria, under the command of Chief Inspector Abu Issahaku. Acting on credible intelligence, officers focused on individuals believed to be involved in the sale and distribution of illegal narcotics within the Zujung area.
Abdul Manan, who operates an over-the-counter chemical shop, was identified as a key suspect. His subsequent arrest marked a significant development in the ongoing efforts to combat drug trafficking in the region.
Extensive Drug Cache Recovered
Following Manan’s apprehension, a thorough search of his business premises and residence was conducted by the police. This search yielded a considerable quantity of pharmaceutical products suspected to be distributed illegally.
Recovered items include 32 boxes of 50mg Tramadol, one box of 250mg Tramadol, and a sachet of 120mg Royal Tramadol. Additionally, police seized one sachet of 100mg Tramadol, nine boxes of 32mg Astradol-P, and 24 bottles of Koffex, a cough syrup often misused for its psychoactive properties.
Investigation Underway, Source of Drugs Sought
The suspect and all seized items have been transferred to the Regional Drug Law Enforcement Unit. This unit will oversee the ongoing investigation into the matter.
Police have confirmed that Abdul Manan is currently in custody and is cooperating with investigators. Authorities are working diligently to trace the origin of the seized drugs and to identify any potential accomplices involved in the distribution network.
