The Student Workforce Innovation Movement (SWIM) has appointed Evans Kyere-Mensah, an internationally recognized agritech innovator, as its Global Agritech and Climate Innovation Advisor. This appointment, announced simultaneously in Accra and Greensboro, North Carolina, aims to bolster efforts in advancing youth workforce innovation and climate-smart agriculture globally.
This strategic move is part of SWIM’s broader objective to cultivate global workforce pathways in agriculture, climate resilience, and the next generation of food systems. The organization seeks to enhance collaboration between educational institutions and industry leaders, preparing young people for the dynamic opportunities within the evolving global economy.
Kyere-Mensah brings a wealth of experience in agribusiness development, youth empowerment, agricultural value chain innovation, and climate-smart agriculture initiatives. His expertise spans across Africa and various international development networks, making him a valuable asset to SWIM’s mission.
In his advisory capacity, Kyere-Mensah will offer strategic direction for SWIM’s agritech education programs, university partnerships, and innovation initiatives. These programs are designed to equip students with essential skills for emerging careers in agriculture and climate innovation.
The appointment arrives at a critical juncture, as agriculture continues to be a cornerstone of economic development, food security, and climate resilience worldwide. International development organizations, including the World Bank and the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), highlight that agriculture supports the livelihoods of nearly one billion people globally.
Africa’s significance in the future of global agriculture is increasingly recognized, attributed to its large, youthful population and substantial agricultural potential. This demographic advantage positions the continent as a key player in addressing global food challenges.
Louv Afua Amoakowaa Ford, Founder and CEO of SWIM, expressed enthusiasm about the appointment, describing Kyere-Mensah’s expertise as a significant advantage for the organization. “Evans brings a rare combination of agricultural innovation expertise, youth development leadership, and global perspective,” Ford stated.
Ford emphasized that Kyere-Mensah’s insights will be instrumental as SWIM expands its agritech programs. “His insight will play a critical role as we expand SWIM’s agritech programs, build partnerships with universities and research institutions, and create new opportunities for students to participate in the future of sustainable agriculture and climate solutions,” she added.
She further underscored the pivotal role of agriculture in tackling global issues. “Agriculture sits at the intersection of food security, economic development, and climate resilience. By connecting students to agritech innovation ecosystems and institutional partnerships, SWIM is helping prepare the next generation of leaders who will shape the future of sustainable agriculture,” Ford concluded.
Kyere-Mensah’s responsibilities will include supporting the development of agritech education and certification programs in collaboration with accredited universities. He will also contribute to climate-smart agriculture training and workforce development initiatives.
Furthermore, he will foster partnerships with agricultural institutions and agribusiness companies, alongside supporting student-led agritech entrepreneurship programs. This multi-faceted approach aims to bridge the gap between education and practical application in the agritech sector.
Reflecting on his new role, Kyere-Mensah expressed his honor in joining SWIM. “Agriculture is undergoing a profound transformation driven by technology, climate challenges, and new economic opportunities,” he remarked.
“SWIM’s vision of connecting students with innovation ecosystems and industry partnerships provides a powerful platform to empower the next generation of leaders in agriculture and climate resilience,” Kyere-Mensah added, highlighting the synergistic potential of the collaboration.
SWIM anticipates that this partnership will enhance opportunities for students to engage in agricultural innovation, contribute to sustainable food systems, and promote entrepreneurship, particularly in emerging markets. The organization remains dedicated to cultivating a collaborative ecosystem that unites students, educators, innovators, and industry leaders.
This collective effort is geared towards driving workforce development and fostering innovation critical for the future global economy. The focus remains on preparing young talent for the evolving demands of the agricultural sector and its intersection with climate solutions.
