Taxi Driver Perishes in Head-On Collision on Wenchi-Wa Highway

A 52-year-old taxi driver, Moro Sule, tragically lost his life in a severe head-on collision on the Wenchi-Wa Highway on Wednesday, May 20, around 1840 hours. The accident, which occurred near the Wenchi Cemetery area, has cast a pall of grief over the Wenchi Municipality.

Accident Details Emerge

Police Inspector George Mahama of the Wenchi Motor Traffic and Transport Department (MTTD) detailed the circumstances surrounding the fatal crash. The collision involved two Opel Astra taxi cabs. Sule, driving one of the vehicles, was pronounced dead on arrival at the Wenchi Methodist Hospital.

The body of the deceased has since been released to his family for burial according to Islamic customs. The other driver, identified as 41-year-old Mamuda Mahama, sustained injuries and is currently receiving treatment at the same hospital. Three passengers who were also injured in the incident have been treated and discharged.

Sequence of Events

Inspector Mahama explained that the accident occurred when one of the taxis, en route from Awisa to Wenchi with three occupants, attempted to maneuver around a motor king. In doing so, the driver reportedly veered into the oncoming lane. This action led to a direct, head-on impact with the approaching taxi driven by the late Moro Sule.
