Telecel Foundation's Healthfest Brings Vital Screenings to Konongo

Approximately 400 residents of Konongo and nearby towns in eastern Ashanti received free, comprehensive health screenings last month as the Telecel Ghana Foundation’s Healthfest initiative provided essential medical services directly to the community. The outreach, part of Telecel’s broader Ashanti Month celebrations in June, aimed to address healthcare access barriers and promote preventive health.

Context: Addressing Healthcare Gaps

The Telecel Ghana Foundation operates under a ‘Connected Health’ pillar, focusing on enhancing access to quality healthcare and promoting preventative measures, particularly in underserved areas. This initiative recognizes that many individuals face significant financial hurdles when seeking regular health check-ups, leading to delayed diagnoses and potentially severe health complications.

Healthfest Delivers Comprehensive Screenings and Support

During the Healthfest event in Konongo, participants underwent screenings for a range of critical health conditions. These included common yet serious issues such as hypertension, diabetes, malaria, Hepatitis B, HIV, syphilis, and typhoid. Beyond diagnostics, the program offered vital health education and counseling services.

Crucially, the event also facilitated access to the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS). Nearly 300 individuals either registered for new NHIS memberships or renewed their existing ones, further solidifying the event’s impact on long-term health security for the community.

Residents, like Isaac Nana Yaw Frimpong, a trader who was visiting Konongo, expressed gratitude for the accessible and free services. He highlighted the quality of care received and the removal of financial burdens associated with health assessments, calling his experience
