Three More Suspects Arrested in Murder of Indian National Found in Ashanti Region

The Ghana Police Service has apprehended three additional suspects in connection with the murder of an Indian national, Sameer Devendra Kumar, whose body was discovered in the boot of an abandoned vehicle in the Ashanti Region on April 26, 2026. The arrests, made on April 29 and 30 in Kumasi, bring the total number of individuals in custody to four, as authorities intensify their investigation into the brutal killing.

Investigation Intensifies with New Arrests

Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCOP) Grace Ansah Akrofi announced the latest developments at a press briefing, confirming that all suspects are in police custody. Recovered exhibits, including a CCTV server and two mobile phones (an iPhone 17 Pro Max and a Tecno phone) belonging to the victim, have been secured for evidential purposes.

The victim, Sameer Devendra Kumar, was found with multiple stab wounds on the outskirts of Staben Ekufrom. The three newly arrested suspects have been identified as Osman Moro, also known as Piago, aged 20; an unnamed suspect apprehended near Abra Pon in the Dumporse area; and John Adoko, alias Keita.

First Suspect Admits Involvement

The arrests follow the earlier detention of Akum Kujjo Jr., the first suspect in the case. Police state that Kujjo Jr. has confessed to involvement in the murder.

According to DCOP Ansah Akrofi, Kujjo Jr. informed investigators that he visited the deceased’s workplace on April 24, two days prior to the discovery of the body. There, with the assistance of another suspect, he allegedly disconnected and replaced the existing CCTV server.

The suspect later led investigators to Daban New Site in Kumasi, where the concealed CCTV server was successfully retrieved.

Key Evidence Recovered

The victim’s iPhone 17 Pro Max was recovered after Osman Moro allegedly directed police to a bush near Abra Pon. The phone was reportedly buried in a hole and concealed within a brown envelope covered with fresh leaves.

The Tecno mobile phone, also belonging to the deceased, was found in the possession of the second suspect arrested near Abra Pon. This individual is believed to be the one who aided in replacing the CCTV server at the victim’s workplace.

Furthermore, John Adoko, alias Keita, has reportedly admitted to driving the victim’s vehicle to the location where it was ultimately abandoned. Police are continuing their efforts to establish the complete sequence of events leading to Mr. Kumar’s death.

Ongoing Investigation and Future Outlook

The Ghana Police Service emphasizes that the investigation remains active and ongoing. Authorities are working diligently to piece together all aspects of the crime, aiming to bring all responsible parties to justice.

The successful recovery of key evidence and the confessions from initial suspects suggest a significant progression in the case. The focus now shifts to further interrogation of the newly arrested individuals and the potential uncovering of additional motives and accomplices. The police’s intelligence-led operations highlight their commitment to resolving this high-profile murder case. Observers will be watching for further developments as the police build their case, including the potential for more arrests and the eventual prosecution of those involved.
