A U.S. citizen, Lu Jianwang, 64, was convicted this week by a federal jury in New York of acting as an illegal agent for China’s Ministry of Public Security (MPS) and obstructing justice. He operated a clandestine police station in Manhattan’s Chinatown in early 2022, aimed at targeting Chinese dissidents within the United States.
The conviction follows a week-long trial and marks a significant development in the ongoing efforts by U.S. authorities to dismantle foreign government operations on American soil. Lu, also known as Harry Lu, faces up to 30 years in prison.
