The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) has announced significant power disruptions across six regions, including Eastern, Tema, Accra East, Accra West, Volta, and Ashanti, on Tuesday, June 9, 2026. These outages are attributed to a combination of planned maintenance activities and unexpected fault-related incidents, affecting numerous communities throughout the day.
Planned Maintenance Across Regions
The Eastern Region will experience outages from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm, impacting areas such as Pikiku, Mame Krobo, Tease, and Donkorkrom.
In the Tema Region, planned maintenance is scheduled from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm, affecting Communities 3 and 5, New York, Sakumono Estates, and areas around Jubail Hospital and Tsopoli.
Accra East customers will face power interruptions between 9:00 am and 4:00 pm in parts of Nanakrom, Ashongman, and the Bank of Ghana area.
Accra West is scheduled for maintenance from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm, impacting Darkuman, Kokompe, and areas near Ayigbe Junction.
The Volta Region will see outages from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm, affecting Kopeiya, parts of Akatsi Town, Ave Town, and Dzodze.
The Ashanti Region faces the most extensive planned maintenance, with multiple schedules. One exercise runs from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm, covering Nerebehi, Adankwame, Barekese, Offinso, and areas around Kodie and Aduamoah.
A second maintenance window in the Ashanti Region is set for 9:00 am to 5:00 pm, affecting Atonsu, Gyinyase, and Kotei. A third exercise will impact Oseiakrom, Denyaaifokrom, and surrounding communities like Mpraniae and Mem.
Fault-Related Outages Cause Disruption
In addition to planned work, several fault-related outages are causing disruptions. A broken high-tension pole in Ankasa, Western Region, has led to power loss in Asemkrom, Enchi Township, and Elubo, with engineers working to resolve the issue.
A technical challenge at the Nsawam Primary Station in the Accra West Region has cut power to Hebron, Medie, and Satellite areas.
In the Ashanti West Region, a transformer fault near the Adum Central Business Centre has affected parts of the commercial district and adjacent areas.
ECG’s Response and Customer Advice
The ECG has issued an apology for the inconvenience caused by these widespread disruptions.
Customers in areas affected by planned maintenance are advised to make alternative arrangements for essential power-dependent activities during the specified hours.
The company assures that power supply will be restored upon completion of the maintenance or rectification of the faults.
ECG urges the public to report any electrical hazards and to treat all fallen power lines as live and dangerous.
Looking Ahead
The recurring nature of these planned maintenance exercises and fault-related outages highlights the ongoing challenges in maintaining and upgrading Ghana’s electricity infrastructure. The ECG’s efforts to address these issues are critical for ensuring reliable power supply across the nation. Consumers and businesses will continue to monitor ECG’s communication for future updates and planned works, seeking to minimize disruptions through preparedness.
