World Aquatics Issues Stern Warning to Ghana Over Sports Ministry Interference in Swimming Federation

World Aquatics has formally warned Ghana’s Sports Ministry and the National Sports Authority (NSA) against interfering with the Ghana Swimming Association (GSA), asserting that such actions could jeopardize the nation’s athletes’ ability to compete in international events, including the Olympic Games. The international governing body reiterated that the GSA remains the sole recognized national federation for aquatics in Ghana.

Background of the Dispute

The situation escalated following an announcement by the NSA that it had withdrawn recognition of the GSA. This decision was reportedly based on petitions from several swimming clubs that called for reforms and new elections within the federation.

Subsequently, the Sports Ministry stated it would not recognize any congress organized by the current GSA leadership if it did not adhere to established procedures. A statement from the ministry declared,
