NDC Chairman Asiedu Nketia's 'Thank You Tour' Not a Presidential Campaign, Says Majority Chief Whip

Accra, Ghana – The ongoing nationwide tour by National Democratic Congress (NDC) Chairman Johnson Asiedu Nketia is a routine post-election engagement and not a clandestine presidential campaign, according to Majority Chief Whip Rockson-Nelson Dafeamekpor. Dafeamekpor, the Member of Parliament for South Dayi, stated on Tuesday that Mr. Asiedu Nketia has been conducting similar appreciation tours since 2021, dismissing suggestions that the current exercise is aimed at positioning the chairman for a future flagbearer contest.

Context of the Tour

The current round of constituency visits by the NDC chairman began following the party’s post-election regional engagements after ministerial appointments were made. This initiative addresses concerns raised within the party that grassroots supporters had not been adequately acknowledged following the 2024 general elections.

At a national executive meeting, party members expressed a sentiment that while the former presidential candidate had visited regions, the party’s leadership needed to engage directly with constituency-level faithful. These supporters had reportedly fought hard during the electioneering period after eight years in opposition.

Details of the Engagements

Mr. Dafeamekpor explained that the scale and logistical demands of visiting numerous constituencies have led to the tour taking nearly a year. The chairman is methodically engaging with party members, traditional leaders, queen mothers, and other groups who supported the NDC.
