Ghana Maintains Strong Ties with South Africa Amidst Xenophobic Unrest, President Mahama Affirms

Ghanaian President John Mahama stated that diplomatic relations between Ghana and South Africa remain intact despite recent xenophobic attacks that led to the voluntary evacuation of some Ghanaian citizens. Mahama made these remarks during an official visit to the United Kingdom, addressing concerns about the growing hostility towards foreign African nationals.

Speaking at Chatham House in London, President Mahama clarified that the incidents have not caused a breach in diplomatic ties between the two nations. He acknowledged the unfortunate nature of the attacks, describing them as surges in anti-foreign sentiment that have unfortunately begun to affect Ghanaians more directly.
