Central Regional Member of the Council of State, Hakeem Adae, has called upon traditional leaders nationwide to actively support government development projects, emphasizing the critical role they play in facilitating progress. This appeal was made during a recent sod-cutting ceremony for a new 24-Hour Economy Market in Twifo Praso.
Chiefs as Facilitators of Development
Mr. Adae specifically urged chiefs and traditional authorities to readily provide land for government developmental projects within their communities. He highlighted the Twifo Traditional Area as a positive example, commending their swift action in releasing land for the new market project.
This initiative, the 24-Hour Economy Market, is envisioned to boost economic activity and create opportunities within the Twifo Atti-Morkwa Constituency. The project signifies a commitment from the government to accelerate development and fulfill its promises to the populace.
Project Scope and Funding
The proposed market complex will feature modern stores, a police station, and a fire service station, enhancing local infrastructure and security. A Women’s Bank is also slated for inclusion, aiming to empower local female entrepreneurs.
Theophilus Vondee, Member of Parliament for the Twifo Atti-Morkwa Constituency, assured residents of the government’s dedication to completing its campaign pledges. He encouraged continued public confidence in President John Dramani Mahama’s administration.
Isaac Yawson, the District Chief Executive for Twifo Atti-Morkwa, confirmed that funding for the market project is secured and ready for disbursement to the contractor. Construction is anticipated to take approximately three years to complete.
Broader Implications for Governance
The call for traditional leaders’ support underscores a broader strategy to leverage existing community structures for national development. By engaging chiefs, who often hold significant influence, the government seeks to streamline land acquisition processes and foster local buy-in for infrastructure projects.
This approach recognizes the unique position of traditional leaders as custodians of land and community values. Their cooperation is seen as vital for the successful and timely implementation of development agendas, particularly in rural and peri-urban areas.
Economic Impact and Future Outlook
The 24-Hour Economy Market is expected to transform the economic landscape of Twifo Praso and surrounding areas. By providing modern facilities and support services like the Women’s Bank, the project aims to stimulate local commerce, create jobs, and improve the overall standard of living for residents.
The successful execution of this project could serve as a model for future collaborations between the government and traditional authorities in driving development across the nation. Stakeholders will be watching closely to see how effectively these partnerships translate into tangible progress and economic upliftment.
