Ghana Targets 2027 to End Double-Track System with Major Infrastructure Project

Accra, Ghana – President John Mahama announced Friday, May 15, that the government will launch the STAR-J project, a significant education infrastructure initiative designed to eradicate the double-track system in Senior High Schools by the close of 2027. The project, spearheaded by the Ministry of Education, aims to increase student enrollment capacity and enhance learning environments through the construction and expansion of vital school facilities nationwide.

Addressing Overcrowding and Enhancing Equity

The STAR-J project emerges as a direct response to the challenges posed by the double-track system, a measure implemented under the Free Senior High School policy to manage overcrowding. President Mahama revealed the initiative during a courtesy call by the Northern Regional House of Chiefs at the Jubilee House.
