The Office of the President has established a new Presidential Delivery Unit (PDU) aimed at rigorously monitoring the implementation of government projects and campaign promises on a monthly basis. This initiative, announced by Chief of Staff Julius Debrah, seeks to enhance accountability and ensure that government appointees deliver on their mandates.
Strengthening Governance and Accountability
The PDU will regularly assess progress on government commitments, track the execution of promises, and hold appointees responsible for achieving tangible results. This move is part of a broader strategy to strengthen governance and support the administration’s agenda of economic recalibration and public sector improvement.
Chief of Staff Debrah emphasized his role in ensuring that all government appointees align their work with the President’s objectives. “My duty is to ensure that every appointee under the government will work according to the wishes of the president,” he stated during a town hall meeting in Koforidua.
Operationalizing the Delivery Unit
The unit will operate by reviewing monthly reports on government targets, evaluating the performance of ministries and agencies against expectations. “At the presidency, there is an office called the Presidential Delivery Unit, and I have to ensure that every month I look at the report to see if the president was able to meet all the targets,” Mr. Debrah explained.
This structured approach aims to provide a clear, data-driven overview of the government’s progress and identify any bottlenecks hindering the delivery of key projects and promises.
Engaging with Stakeholders for Feedback
In addition to internal monitoring, the PDU plans to actively engage with traditional authorities and opinion leaders across the country. This outreach will allow the presidency to gather direct feedback on the performance of government appointees within their respective jurisdictions.
“Soon some persons from the presidency will come to you, the traditional leaders, to enquire of you the progress of the appointees within your jurisdiction,” Mr. Debrah informed attendees at the town hall meeting. This engagement strategy is designed to foster a more responsive and accountable governance system.
