Mobile Money Vendor Fatally Shot in Brazen Market Robbery

The Ghana Police Service is actively pursuing armed assailants responsible for a fatal robbery attack on a mobile money vendor at the Gomoa Dominase Onion Market in the Central Region on Saturday, June 6, 2026. The violent incident resulted in the death of the vendor and left another individual with gunshot wounds, intensifying concerns over the safety of mobile money operators across the nation.

Security Concerns Intensify After Fatal Robbery

The Gomoa Dominase District Police were alerted to the brazen attack on Saturday evening, responding to reports of masked gunmen storming the bustling onion market. Eyewitnesses reported that the assailants fired indiscriminately before escaping into a nearby bush, leaving a trail of fear and devastation.

By the time police arrived at the scene, the suspects had vanished. Distress calls from residents and traders prompted an immediate dispatch of officers, but they were unable to apprehend the perpetrators.

Victim Identified, Another Injured

The deceased has been identified as Hamisu Abdulai, a mobile money vendor known within the community. Both Abdulai and another victim, whose identity has been withheld, were rushed to a local polyclinic. Due to the severity of their injuries, they were subsequently transferred to the Trauma and Specialist Hospital in Winneba.

Tragically, Hamisu Abdulai was pronounced dead upon arrival at the hospital. The second victim is currently receiving treatment and is reported to be responding well.

Investigation Underway, Evidence Recovered

Investigators have cordoned off the crime scene and collected crucial evidence, including 14 spent cartridges and one live BB cartridge. These items have been secured as exhibits to aid the ongoing forensic and intelligence-led investigation.
