Ninety police officers from across Ghana’s Upper West Region have successfully completed a rigorous three-week training program focused on community policing, conflict prevention, and intelligence gathering. The initiative, held in Wa, aimed to foster stronger trust and collaboration between law enforcement and the public. Officers from districts including Wa West and Sissala West participated, seeking to gain practical skills for better community engagement and proactive crime prevention.
Strengthening Local Security Through Collaboration
The training program was a collaborative effort between the Centre for Security Sector Management (CSSM) and the International Organization for Migration (IOM). Its core objective was to equip officers with modern policing strategies that move beyond traditional enforcement.
Speaking at the closing ceremony, the Upper West Regional Minister, Charles Lwanga Puozuing, highlighted the evolving security landscape in West Africa. He stressed that emerging threats such as violent extremism, cross-border crime, and the spread of disinformation necessitate a fundamental shift in policing approaches.
