APHRC Unveils Modern Knowledge Hub to Catalyze Research and Innovation Across Africa

The African Population and Health Research Centre (APHRC) has inaugurated a state-of-the-art knowledge hub at its headquarters in Kenya, coinciding with its 25th anniversary. This new facility aims to significantly bolster research, foster innovation, and enhance evidence-based policymaking throughout the African continent.

A Milestone for African Research Capacity

This launch represents a significant advancement for APHRC, marking its evolution from a regional research entity into a prominent African institution driving policy engagement and research excellence.

Situated at Ulwazi Place in Nairobi, the hub is designed as a nexus for collaboration, bringing together a diverse group of stakeholders. These include researchers, government officials, international development partners, private sector leaders, civil society representatives, and emerging young innovators.

The facility boasts modern amenities such as smart meeting rooms and flexible collaborative spaces, all engineered to promote dynamic learning and effective teamwork.

Strategic Timing Amidst Policy Shifts

The establishment of the knowledge hub arrives at a pivotal moment for Africa’s research landscape. Earlier this year, Kenya introduced the Science, Research and Innovation (SRI) Synergy Blueprint, a substantial Ksh. 500 billion initiative intended to refine national research systems and improve access to cutting-edge research infrastructure.

During the launch event, Principal Secretary for Science, Research and Innovation, Prof. Shaukat Abdulrazak, spoke on behalf of the Prime Cabinet Secretary, Dr. Musalia Mudavadi. He hailed the new hub as a critical investment in the continent’s future development.
